Mavericks vs Hawks

Mavericks vs Hawks: Atlanta Hawks fans will get their first look at high-scoring rookie Trae Young and their newly refurbished State Farm Arena when the Atlanta Hawks host the Dallas Mavericks in their home opener on Wednesday.

Mavericks vs Hawks Live

The Hawks (1-2) turned over their roster in a rebuilding effort, centered around Young, the 6-foot-2 guard from Oklahoma. The results have been good so far for Young, who is averaging 23 points and 8.3 rebounds.

The Mavericks (2-1) have won two straight games, with rookie Luka Doncic averaging 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Doncic was drafted by Atlanta in the first round and immediately traded to the Mavs for Young and a 2019 first-round draft pick.

Atlanta veteran Kent Bazemore has been impressed with Young, who had 35 points and 11 assists on Sunday in the 133-111 win over Cleveland.

“Trae is fearless,” Bazemore said. “Even in the practices earlier in the summer, he came in and established himself right away. That’s what you have to respect. A young guy that comes in, he’s not bashful, he’s not shy and who has that kind of talent. I’m proud of him as a teammate.”

Young downplayed any rivalry against Chicago’s Collin Sexton, that team’s 19-year-old first-rounder from Alabama.

“You look forward to playing anybody in your class,” Young said. “You look forward to playing against guys you grew up with. I was looking forward to playing against Collin, but at the same time I look forward to playing against everybody.”

That includes Doncic. The two players will no doubt be compared against each other throughout their careers. Doncic, 19, became the youngest Dallas player to score 20 points when he got 26 in his home debut.

The hottest player for Dallas has been veteran center DeAndre Jordan, who became the team’s first player in 24 years to start a season with three straight double-doubles. He had 18 points and 16 rebounds in Monday’s 115-109 win over Chicago.

“He’s just been sensational,” Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. “He’s giving us a major presence on the inside. You add the personality and attitude that he brings to the game … on a night like tonight (against Chicago), you don’t get over the top without it.”

The game will also mark the home debut for Atlanta coach Lloyd Pierce, who was hired when the team and coach Mike Budenholzer had a mutual parting after the 2017-18 season.

The Mavericks have been without forward Harrison Barnes and guard Devin Harris, who both missed Monday’s game against Chicago with hamstring issues. Veteran Dirk Nowitzki is expected to miss at least two more weeks with a foot injury.

The Hawks have been without power forward John Collins and center Dewayne Dedmon, who are dealing with ankle issues. Also sidelined are guard Justin Anderson (leg) and guard Daniel Hamilton (shoulder). Collins isn’t likely to return until mid-November because he has yet to return to the court for work.

Match Preview

PSG’s loss to Liverpool remains their only defeat of the season and also the only time the team have scored fewer than three goals in a game.

The French champions have been in prolific form and have 16 goals in their last three outings in all competitions.

The Parisiens will be able to welcome Neymar back for the visit of Napoli. The Brazilian was rested for Saturday’s 5-0 win over Amiens following his exertions with Brazil over the international break.

Manager Thomas Tuchel is also hoping a number of his key players will be fit for the match:

One concern for PSG is the form of Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan has been struggling and missed two good chances against Amiens.

He looks short of confidence and is going through a “difficult moment,” according to Tuchel, per ESPN FC’s Jonathan Johnson.

Cavani’s struggles have hardly slowed PSG down, and with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar both fit and firing they will take some stopping:

Napoli also have injury concerns and will be hoping Insigne and Simone Verdi can shake off muscle problems, per Football Italia.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti has said this match could be vital in deciding which teams make it out of the group and into the next stage of the competition, per DAZN (h/t Football Italia).

“It’s bound to be a fascinating game, and we are honoured to be taking part in it,” he said. “I’d say this match is almost decisive for who goes through to the next round. We’re in the balance and we’ve got to stay on our toes.”

It promises to be an entertaining game between two sides known for their attractive, attacking football. Home advantage may favour PSG, but they will be wary of the threat Napoli possess.

Liverpool vs Red Star Belgrade

Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League campaign will continue on Wednesday when they host Red Star Belgrade at Anfield. The Reds are overwhelming 1-20 favourites to win, while Red Star come in at 28-1. A draw comes in at 12-1 (per, accurate as of Sunday).

Giants vs Falcons Live

Liverpool returned from the international break with a narrow win over Huddersfield Town to continue their exceptional Premier League form.

The Reds shared some of the numbers behind their impressive stretch following the 1-0 triumph:

Wednesday’s task will be of a different kind, as they play host to Red Star in a must-win European contest.

Following the loss to Napoli, Liverpool find themselves in a tie for second place in Group C, one point behind the Partenopei and level with Paris Saint-Germain.

The three teams are expected to battle it out for the two tickets to the next round, while Red Star could play spoiler. They already held Napoli to a draw on Matchday 1.

The Serbs took a crushing defeat against PSG, losing 6-1, but they have bounced back with consecutive domestic wins. They are facing quite a bit of controversy off the pitch, however:

It’s worth noting Red Star’s loss against PSG was their first of the season. While they are regarded as the minnows of the group, they should not be overlooked.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp may be tempted to rest some key starters with a crucial match against Arsenal ahead on November 3, but it would be wiser to be at full-strength on Wednesday and rotate against Cardiff City on Saturday.

Napoli and PSG are both in solid form and will provide a major challenge for the remaining Group C fixtures―Liverpool have to take care of business against Red Star and work on their goal differential in the process.

Prediction: Liverpool 4-1 Red Star Belgrade

Borussia Dortmund vs Atletico Madrid Live

Borussia Dortmund vs Atletico Madrid Live

Lucien Favre’s men are yet to lose at all this season and sit top of the Bundesliga table with a club-record haul of 27 goals after eight games and the league’s best defence. BVB are also top of Group A ahead of Atletico on goal difference and are yet to concede a goal in Europe after 1-0 and 3-0 wins over Club Brugge and Monaco, respectively. Favre’s biggest concern ahead of this top-of-the-table clash is the fitness of Bundesliga top scorer Paco Alcacer, who went off at half-time in Saturday’s 4-0 win at VfB Stuttgart with a thigh problem. The Bundesliga leaders have been boosted by the return of USA international Christian Pulisic and Marius Wolf, while the form of Reus and the league’s top assist provider Jadon Sancho bodes well for Borussia.

UEFA Europa League winners Atletico also have a 100 per cent record in the Champions League but are currently fifth in their domestic league after being held to a 1-1 draw at Villarreal over the weekend. The Madrid club are without influential striker Diego Costa because of a hamstring injury, while top scorer Antoine Griezmann remains a threat, despite scoring half as many goals in over four times as many minutes this season as Dortmund counterpart Alcacer. This season’s Champions League final will be played at Atletico’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on 1 June next year.

Probable line-ups

Dortmund: Bürki – Hakimi, Toprak, Zagadou, Diallo – Witsel, Delaney – Pulisic, Reus (c), Sancho – Philipp
Absentees: Akanji (hip), Schmelzer, Toljan (both knee)
Coach: Lucien Favre

Atletico: Oblak – Juanfran, Gimenez, Godin, Hernandez – Saul, Rodri, Koke, Lemar – Correa, Griezmann
Absentees: Costa (hamstring), Savic (calf)
Coach: Diego Simeone

Alcacer has seven goals in just 129 minutes of Bundesliga action for Dortmund – a league record.
Reus has five goals in his last five competitive outings.
Atletico failed to win an away game in the Champions League last season.

Barcelona vs Inter Milan

Barcelona vs Inter Milan: Live Barcelona will continue their most challenging week of the season yet on Wednesday when they host Italian giants Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.

Barcelona vs Inter Milan Live

The Blaugrana are coming off a win over in-form Sevilla during the weekend and will face rivals Real Madrid in the first Clasico of the season on Sunday. They can’t afford to look past the Nerazzurri, however, as Inter have won both of their Champions League fixtures so far and are tied for the group lead.

OddsShark has handed Barcelona 4-7 odds, compared to 17/4 for Inter. A draw comes in at 333-100 (Odds accurate as of Sunday, October 21). BT Sport (UK) and B/R Live (U.S.) will have full coverage of the match, which kicks off at 8 p.m. BST/3 p.m. ET.

Barcelona’s Week From Hell

The Catalans played Athletic Bilbao, Tottenham Hotspur and Valencia in the week leading up to the international break and had an even tougher stretch to look forward to coming out of it, with Sevilla, Inter and Real on the schedule in just eight days.

Sevilla had been La Liga’s in-form team, but the Catalans pulled through during the weekend, winning 4-2. Here are the highlights of that match, via LaLiga’s official YouTube channel:

The Blaugrana attack was as prolific as ever, but the defence struggled, as the unit has been decimated by injuries. Marc-Andre ter Stegen was the key reason behind the win.

The injury wave continued for the hosts, losing Lionel Messi to an arm injury. He will not face Inter or Real:

Inter had the perfect preparation for this match with a 1-0 win over local rivals AC Milan as Rossoneri goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma gifted Mauro Icardi the only goal.

It should give the Italians plenty of momentum heading into the game, but they’ll have to do a far better job of linking up with their star man at the Camp Nou to replicate the result.

Prediction: Barcelona 3-1 Inter
